Does anyone have any experience with this heated windshield solution from the UK?

https://www.heatedwindscreen.com/products/p...lear-windscreen

I have a GT clone with no heat or ventilation. It does have heated seats, and I would love a heated windshield for foggy morning drives. Yes, I know I can add back heat and/or ventilation, but I'm running headers going back to the stock set up would be both expensive and weighty.

Perhaps someone has imported one or a UK member can weigh in on the performance of this windscreen.

My recent 1975 example has the hot air system working properly (I think) and it defrosts the windscreen quickly. Also, I am not running a thermostat

Hello Morehills,

My '82 911SC came with a factory heated windscreen. The bottom 6 inches (approximately) of the windshield has very fine filament type wire running horizontally from side to side. The wire cannot be seen unless you look at the windshield from a particular angle. It does not affect vision at all. The heating element is activated by one of the pull switches on the dash. I have not used the feature recently, but as I recall, it worked pretty good. Similar to heated rear windows.

That seems like a good, cheap option. Shipping that glass is gonna be expensive. I believe you can purchase those type heating elements with an adhesive backing. I've also wondered about the small box heating units like they sell on amazon ... but they use about 800w of power, so you'd need a huge Alternator I guess. Is there an Alternator option that would work - you tell me? :

My car has no heat and I tend to run it year round as long as the roads arent salted.

Wear warm clothes, keep your windows cracked open. Have a rag in the car just in case, but fogging generally isn't an issue.

A 914 can't spare the amps to run electric heated windshields. Not unless you put in a much larger alternator. I'm sure you are already pushing the limits with the electric seat warmers.

I would suggest putting the heating system back in if the cold is starting to get to you. You won't notice the added weight when you are warm. I've been intending to take my own advice for like 5 years now but have not gotten around to it...

Get a Webasto gasoline heater.

Only a few pounds of weight about as low in the car as it gets, pipe the output into the air system and enjoy an early morning sauna.

According to google, an 800W unit (like the electric one I linked to above) needs about 67 amps on a 12V system. Someone used to offer a 160A alternator for the 914, right?

From their website:

On this drawing we have used 25AMP circuits as this covers nearly all of our windscreens! Some of the largest screens we do for example Civics and VW Transporters may need up to 35AMPs per side - if you are unsure call us!
