I cranked on my rebuilt 1.7, a couple weeks ago attempting a first start. All seemed well. The cranking was strong but I was cautious not to stay on them too long. I only cranked about a dozen times or so and gave up after not building any oil pressure - it was getting late and I'd come back to it after the cold, rainy weather past in a few days.

Today I reinstalled a fully charged battery to try again.. turned the key to the first position.. nothing - no dash lights, no fuel pump cycle, nothing. I checked power at the fuse box - #10-12 light up my test light w/ the key off like they should BUT #8/9 does not come on with the key turned on at the first position !!

Just seeing if there's anything obvious I might be missing before ripping out the column switches and knee pad AGAIN. It seems so unlikely that it just quit out of the blue, with no real pressure on it. I did remove the spark plugs yesterday and added some lube, I hadn't unplugged the coil yet though.. but I don't think I hit the starter, though I may have - would that "fry" anything?

I didn't think to check this, but what about the coil?

I did have the key in the 1st position for a while the other day while I adjusted the front ride height (kept the steering wheel from locking while moving the wheels L to R and adjusting). Would that have killed the ignition switch?

Coil shouldn't cause you to lose everything. Power to the coil won't cause problems or at least shouldn't. Leaving the key on was more of a points issue I believe. Did you check the fuses?

I went through this recently on my GT project. Turned out to be a loose ground at the battery.

I've got an electronic points set up. All fuses are intact. However, there's no power to the smaller fuse at the relay board, larger one there has power though.

I had removed the battery (this time) to re-charge.. so that kind of makes since, but then again I'm showing power at fuses 10-12 w/ key off (as I should be).
