One other thing that did not work on my very quick first drive of the season was the speed indicator. In the last year I did:

- Replace the speedo angle gear by a unit bought at AA
- Replace the cable with a GEMO cable
- Change the speedo gear bushing with the one with 2 o-rings
- Got the speedometer rebuilt by Palo Alto (during the winter)

Last summer, we had speed indication let's say 50% of the time with all new components with exception of the rebuilt speedometer which led me to have it rebuilt.

On the first test ride this season, nada on the speedometer. So I disconnect the cable at the back of the speedo and surprise (or not), the cable was not turning.

So today I drained the tranny, got the angle gear, bushing, etc. out to test. Cable turns fine. I tested the angle gear with a drill and it turned until it basically stopped. Also, it seems to bind sometimes and get very difficult to turn

Knowing that this angle gear has seen probably less then 1000 miles, is it normal of it to fail??

Assuming that it is my angle gear that is bad, where could I get a good and reliable unit at a decent price. Base on the current experience, I would try to stay away from a similar unit as the one that I currently have.

Any advice as to where to source a new or good used angle gear?

Thanks

With what I read, sounds like the angle drive , speedo and cable work.
There are a couple more pieces you may need to look at if indeed the angle drive is working..

Replacement angle drive is toast,go to WTB and see what you can find , in the interim give Geoge a phone call and see that he has to say ....best of luck there ,cheers.

@PaIsa

I have never seen either of the drive geras go bad. I have heard the Dansk replacement angle drives are junk. I have three original used ones for $75 each shipped. Call AA but I doubt you will get your money back. Really want to try another one of the same that failed. I would not get either of the ones shown on Thesamba ad. The brass bushing shown on one is 911 and will not work on a 914. I dont know if the drive is 911 or 914. Remove the angle drive and turn the drivr with a screw driver and the other end should turn.
If the other end does not turn it is bad

Same thing happened to me. I'm not sure who the part came from. I only order from about four places and we all know there names. New one after less than 200 miles was junk. Instead of paying out the ass for another. I found a used one from 50 years ago, Still works great.
