Well, was working on my 5 lug conversion and one of my front 911 hubs is messed up. At least I suspect it to be messed up. The outer bearing race mating surface on the hub had an accident it seems. The race upon prior install seems to have ate away a little of 1 side of the wall of the hub because it did not go in center/straight, along with that there are a few smaller punch holes from attempting to remove said bearing race.

For those that have used less that perfect parts such as a mangled hub, how critical is this surface in terms of it being either useable or junk. No pics on my end for today, but wanted to put out a feeler for this to gauge if I need a new hub or not.

There are a handful of small punch marks where the race would be seated and found some alum. shavings from 1 side of the walls of the hub. Can I throw this in the lathe and use some Emery cloth or something very light to at least smooth out the punches and try my luck or is this very particular and I need a new hub if there's even 1 nick?

I would really not go on with part ,cost to remedy is going to be mental compared to a used part , seems like this hub as had seized bearings @ some point hence the spot punching.
Without pics its hard to know 100% ,cheers.

As long as the race sits square in the hub, it’s pretty much good to go. If the hub won’t hold the race securely or it’s not seated all the way in, then it’s a problem.

The hub isn’t the bearing surface so it’s not really critical that it looks perfect. I’ve seen plenty that are scarred up from race removal but work perfectly fine.

Phew! I was not wanting to purchase a new used ideally. I'll give it a show after knocking down the high points and see where it ends up with a new race installed. Thanks for the response!
