A red scotch brite pad for the paint. 3m makes a high strength contact adhesive. Eric Sea has a thread on this site that explains the install process. Painters tape to mask off all the parts you want kept clean.

The most important thing for contact adhesive is to let it dry thoroughly before placing the two parts together. More drying time is better than less. A hard rubber roller helps finish the job.

As long as there’s no wax, polish or silicone on the paint, abrasive isn’t required. DAP Landau Top vinyl contact adhesive is the best, but can be hard to find in a quart. 3M spray super trim adhesive works good too.

Weldwood contact cement . Apply it with a mini-roller. Less messy and applies the cement evenly. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

I do like Weldwood. Available at a lot of places. Sticks like crazy.

Having built an endless amount of plastic laminate countertops, I can agree with weldwood cement is the same formula as the professional contact cements I've used for over 50 years. When you touch it with your finger, and the glue does not stick to the finger, it's ready to stick. If it's the least bit gooey and you stick it the glue will not dry and does not adhere properly.

I learned of this stuff through ownership of a GMC Motorhome. It stands up to high temperatures seen inside MH interiors and sprays on with little overspray. Used it on my 914 targa vinyl with nice results.

Get the weldwood Landau, not the cheaper one. Cheaper weldwood works good at first, then gives out when the weather changes a couple times. Never again!
