Very nice. Why is there a small hole in the seal, or is that an old seal for demo?

I use a stub axle and tap it in.
Stub axle is the same diameter as the seal

Nice tip! Now I have some use for the stub axles I have sitting on the shelf.

At least on my VW engines that rear main seal needs to go in just a bit further than flush. The last time I used my Empi seal installer on it the seal ended up leaking as it just pushes it in flush. If I remember correctly there is a slight chamfer that the seal needs to go to the inner edge of. Haven't done one on any of my 914s so that may not be applicable here.
