Just reinstalled my type 4 engine back into car everything wired up as before, upon initial start engine fired right up pretty effortlessly and continued to do so after several starts starter motor kicks in and , a HiTorque IMF, it actuates solenoid and motor spins right up. After bout 1/2 dozen starts the starter only activates the solenoid but no spin. I can hear the solenoid engaging. This is an old starter but haven't had problems before the engine re-install. I removed starter and bench tested with 12 volt leads and jumper cable on solenoid and it engages and spins readily. What's going on?

Mark, You also told me that you let the started cool and that did not make any difference
Shout out to @bdstone914 what do you think?

Ground problem or defective battery cable? And of course make sure the battery is fully charged and passes a load test.

I would bet on a ground issue. Run an extra ground from the battery negative to the fan shroud. If that helps than you know what's up

yes but a bench test is fine but there is no load on the starter, do your connections first and see what happens after a bad result go back to the starter ,cheers.

Battery putting out 14 volts. Will test in car like I did bench test see if it spins up

Voltage of fully charged battery measured at the posts (not the clamps) with engine not running should be ~12.7v. A lower voltage means the battery is partially discharged, for example, a reading of ~12.3v means the battery is 50% discharged.

Your reading of 14v would make sense with engine running and is what the alternator is putting out, not the battery. More here:

Can you rotate the engine by hand?

And I second or third checking ground from trans to body and battery to body.
