Testing the windshield washer in our 1970 914-6. When I pull the wiper / washer lever I can hear a slight thud or click and then the wipers cycle. I have confirmed the noise is the electric pump as I can feel it move slightly if I put my hand on it while someone else pulls the lever. Does that mean the pump is good, or does a good working pump make a different noise?
I've been through many threads about the squirters not working, but haven't found much discussion about the electric pump itself. Thanks. |

Should be a constant hum / whirring
Clunk / thunk / click isn’t right. Bench test it. |

DennisV....The pumps get gummed up inside and make noise and don't do any pumping...I've actually taken them apart and removed the crud and gotten them to work. also go slow as I think I remember a little thin gasket around the perimeter of the two sides

Original pumps are dated approximate to (but before) the cars manufacture date. I've had good luck disassembling, cleaning and reassembling them. Get the pump bracket and hardware plated while it's apart. |

Clean the whole system if you have to take pump apart.

I cleaned the internals and it's purring along now. I couldn't find an existing DIY video on this, so I made one. Very utilitarian and not near the production quality of Ian, but maybe it will help someone else. Porsche Electric Windshield Washer Pump Restoration |

Hey Dennis, great job on the washer motor video. I now need to add that to my list as mine has never worked. Thanks for taking the time to make the video. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)
