Weird. Installing new B6 rear shocks with 914Rubber 100# springs but the bottom of spring doesn’t lock in the plate that came with the shock; it can slip to one side even when loaded onto shock. Pic of existing shock and bottom plate shows it’s maybe a press fitting?
What to do?? Friendly helpful advice appreciated! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Bilstein Cup is upside down. ALSO measure from top to bottom of spring plate on OLD shock. Then move your Bilstein cup CLIP to approximate height. Check distance again.

Yep, inverting it works as the inner shelf acts to keep it centered and in place.
Still no clip; height looks ok. |

The clip is holding the base up Ahh, yes I noticed the lip. It's a clip. Still learning after 52 years of owning this thing... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) |

BTW, anyone use the additional rubber spring (jounce bumper), P/N 901 343 301 00, Item #5 on diagram 402-00 with front bumper Bilstein B6 struts?
My old Boge struts have them; still in reasonable shape. |

@StarBear When I installed the B6 strut inserts and B6 rear shocks, I reused the bump stop for the rear. The fronts no longer use it as they have a built in internal bump stop. I also used Bilstein's strut retaining nut tool to torque it to the spec recommended by Bilstein in the instructions. I also set the clip 5th up from the bottom after wonkipop gave me a measurement of where the stock spring perch resided on the factory rear shock.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) but level is good front to back. esp if you have the front and rear sway bars - which i think @StarBear has. |

@wonkipop Yes, got sway bars as its Appearance Group. New 100# 914Rubber springs. Great advice on the bumpers and setting; at that point now. Boge previously. Didn’t think bumpers used in front any more but some confusing info. Got new 993 ones but old front ones in surprisingly good shape. So, suggesting using new ones in the rear? The 993 units are just a bit shorter so should be a good use. Thanks , guys; you’re the best!! |

Thanks , guys; you’re the best!! @StarBear yes, you put the bump stops in the front assembly. the bilstein inserts are designed to replace what originally was a boge instert. still available new for the front. its a 911 bump stop. 901 part number. don't get confused by this listing, what it means is the bump stop is for the boge strut (meaning if you put a bilstein insert in or if you could put a boge insert in if such a thing was still available). or reuse your old bump stops if you reckon they are still good. https://www.heritagepartscentre.com/au/9013...stop-front.html back in the day you could not get a bilstein insert. you basically had to buy the whole strut incorporating the shock if you ticked bilsteins. only the boges offered an insert for replacement, the bilstein insert came later on when bilstein developed it as a simple way to do a replacement shock in the existing strut. as to the rear. 914 specific bump stop according to PET. can't really remember what we did when we did mine. but i seem to recall we reused all the bump stops all round as they were all still in good condition. |
