Bought this from @914Sixer 4 years ago and I'm thinking about installing it in the LE. I'm sure it's not the exact radio for an LE but it might be the one I go with for now. Question: what are all these pieces, I forget. The metal tabs look like hanger-type hardware. How does it install? I'm wondering if I'm missing anything. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) What about these weird looking connections? Speaker inputs I assume. Is this other wire a ground? Sorry, not a radio expert. TIA. Plug and play. You have to pull knobs and face off radio. Drop radio in hole. Slot the locking bars and tighten them up. Put a back strap on to support the radio. Ground for radio is back strap. Single black wire is for 12V + to switched source. Other two wires are for R & L speakers, they are marked on the case.
Yes it is a correct available radio for 1974 LE. Radio was introduced in 1972. |

I have the exact same Becker installed in my restored LE (Bumblebee) and it is period correct and would have been available from your local Porsche dealer in 1974. All radios were dealer installed and you chose from a rack. As I recall, Beckers on top, some Blaupunkts below them, and a Motorola or two on the bottom. The Becker Mexico FM Cassette deck was the most expensive.
A knowledgeable PCA Concours judge once told me that I had the Mercedes version with the chrome ring knobs and I should have plain black soft-touch knobs in a vintage Porsche, but a photo of the chrome ring version is in Dr. B. Johnson's 914 "A Restorer's Guide to Authenticity III" as a dealer option or owner installed. |

A bunch of snobs that never wanted to acknowledge the 914 as a Porsche are now suddenly experts on 914’s. I ordered a 2 din radio plate from 914 rubber thinking this would be the correct opening for this radio install. I don’t fully understand how to mount a face plate to the dash yet but I can’t see how it would work with the plate that has separate holes for the knobs. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/first.gif) Not sure on the date code. Stickers are all gone. Any stampings are hard to read. Is there a place to look for this date? The speakers I want for this radio are a bit pricey and would come from Germany. Going to wait... just bought the final 3 tires for the LE. Trying to keep the expenditures under the wife's radar (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif) |

What I really want to know is how are you going to fix the chrome "pops" on that surround?
You've been able to fix everything else... |

It should make the "pops" less noticeable. Ninja, you sound like a "concourse weenie" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif) |
