For sale near Washington, D.C.:
1973 1.7 Targa - I purchased this mostly complete project from upstate NY as an ongoing restoration. The car arrived as a complete, running vehicle with a collection of spare parts. I planned on a GT conversion and engine swap. The car has not run for just over one year- My plan was to strip the chassis, repair the rust, then convert to a GT replica (steel flares and reinforcements, partial cage) and then a LS swap. Here's how far I got:

Chassis: Originally Bahia Red, resprayed to Irish green. Bodywork is in mostly good shape with some scuffs on the left front wing. Original glass all around. F and R sway bars appear original. Overall, the dimensions check out-driver's side door works with no binding; passenger side does as well-but the opposite of usual the gap has opened up at the top, likely from welding-induced distortion on the passenger long. Hood, trunk, engine cover all work

Rust report: Complicated. The passenger long has rusted through above the jacking point. The passenger side floor has rusted through and there are separations along the long. The transverse floor brace has separated. The driver's side has numerous small patches around the floor. No jacking point on DR side. Here's where it gets strange. Another, separate floor (in what looks like galvanized steel) has been added underneath along with extensive additional metal added to the outside of the passenger long and a patch at the front. The end result is the car needs a passenger long, floor and lower firewall replacement, but it is pretty close to factory geometry and stable thanks to the mass of reinforcement.

Interior: Old. Mostly complete: bucket seats, adjusters, controls, basketweave dash, top. Mostly stripped and rotten items removed.

Engine: it ran. cobbled together exhaust and CAI.

Transmission: 901, side shift. Moves through all of the gears.

Brakes: all there, new SS lines. They work. Parking brake works.

Suspension: original, all there and F/R sways- missing a rear end link.

Wheels: Minilite style. spare wheel

Electronics: Battery croaked early so a current inventory is hard. Headlights worked, many many stray wires so it will need a close inspection.

Additional: Parts books, AA 700 book, period AA catalog, Haynes, etc.

Used spares:
-Doors, with glass
-Fuchs wheels, NOS caps
-a second set of instruments
-a lot of interior trim pieces
-2nd set of rocker panels

Trades: I am looking for a running, rust free e30, e36 or e28.

I will not separate the GT parts or spares until the car is sold.

I'll link the related thread below. Please post or PM any questions, pic requests and so forth.

Thanks!

Now with pictures. Please PM if you would like higher res versions or something specific. I won't be able to get good pictures of the underside until next week at the earliest, and I should have borescope pics of the chassis and inside the longs by then as well. Thanks.
