Added another 914 to my collection, 73 2.0 " appearance package " Needs some TLC Options

I added another 914 to my collection. It's not that I don't have enough work to do on my 914-6 but this is more of a father and son project. I found this 73 2.0 appearance package is the southern tier of NY. I worked out a deal with the p/o and I picked it up today. I believe the org 2.0 engine was sold to a person in PA. I didn't care too much about that as I'm going to be installing a 6 into it. The car is pretty much complete other then the missing engine. It needs work in the usual spots but otherwise the chassis in on good shape. I took a few quick shots when I got it home but I'll take a few more on Sat.

I took a quick look at the 73 2.0 today. The right engine shelve needs to be replaced as there's lots of pin holes and rust there. The hell hole looks ok but I need to really get in there and dig around. Both jack points are bad and the p/o cut them out. Front and rear trunks look good. The floor pans are in pretty great shape minus a few dents from someone jacking the chassis up. The interior is in pretty good shape and just needs a cleanup. The seats will need some work. Each fender and q-panel has an issue so it's a good candidate for a set of steel flares. The good news is the car came with some of new RD metal for the repairs.

The plan for this one is a 6 conversion, 5 lug setup, steel flares, and a paint job back to the org silver paint.

All of the 4 lug stuff is going up for sale, wheels/tires, and anything 2.0 4 engine stuff that's left in the engine bay.

I have 90 to 95% of the parts needed to convert this one to a 6.
I have the front and rear 5 lug suspension, RD steel flares, wheels/tires, 2.7 RS and a rebuilt side shift trans, oil tank/lines, motor mount, and gauges. Mainly what I'm missing is some new misc RD sheet metal, steel fuel lines, new rubber seals, bushings, and some miscellaneous hardware. The body and paint work will be my biggest expense. Sounds easy enough doesn't it... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

And no I'm not taking any parts away from my 6 build to supply this one.
All of my other 6 parts are in their own bins awaiting for the day to go back on.
These are just parts that I've purchased and stashed away because I wanted to build a 914-6 conv with my son. I just had to find the right 914 to buy first. Compared to some of the other 914's that I've looked at this one believe it or not isn't in bad shape. I can easily deal with the metal work that needs to be done on this one.

I'll take a look and report back. I just jammed some cardboard between the windows and door frame so the glass wouldn't get damaged in transport.

I’m in no way saying it’s a bad decision. I think it’s great that you will restore and modify that car into something special.

Hi Mark, I didn't take it in a bad way. I know it's crazy expensive to do a conversion now a days. It seams the cost of parts have gone through the roof. I've always wanted to do another conversion. I've been lucky enough to be able to buy and stash away most of the parts needed.

I've also checked the doors and they are the late style window mechanism without the later crash bars. I hope they will be good enough to use.

We started the disassembly portion of this build. The interior is about done. The dash and harness needs to be removed yet. I found some sketchy stuff done to the wire harness so that'll have to be addressed. The sound pad/tar paper or whatever it's called now a days needs to be removed from the floor pan. That's a special job set aside for my son to get done. Front trunk is about done too. Fuel tank, fresh air box, and wiper motor is out. Still need to get the headlight assemblies out and move the harness back to the bulkhead for removal. Rear trunk is done. The engine bay is getting there. I have a few more items to remove. I took a look at the hell hole and it needs a little work. The right engine shelve will need to be replaced but that's easy enough to do. I'll see what tomorrows schedule looks like and hopefully get some of these items above taken care of. I also posted a pic behind the speaker grills. Both sides look like this.. Looks like buying a 914 with the sills already cut open is a good way to judge rust problems.
