Is there supposed to be a "1.7" badge on the ass of my car?

Yes! beer.gif

Is it a very early VIN 73?
Dave_Darling
Gold "914" with no displacement badge says 72 (or earlier) to me. If it's a very early 73, it would be the first with that badging I've seen--but the factory did a lot of odd stuff around the model year switchover, so you learn to be very careful about saying that something "never happened"...

VIN starting with "473" would be a 73 model year car.

My 1972 did not have one.

If it did there would be 2 pin holes, so there should be signs of a cover up on the inside.
Olympic 914
Maybe not.

My early '73 was a 1.7 and did not have the 1.7 emblem.
And the 914 emblem was different also. Sort of a gunmetal rather than gold or black plastic like the '74 emblems.

I had one of those gunmetal gray badges on my 1st 914 back in 80s. I always assumed it was faded annodizing or something like that. I still have it around in storage somewhere.

Pretty sure my early '74 (Sept 1973 build date) has the gunmetal badges, both 914 and 2.0.

Based off the VIN SirAndy posted, looks like it should have been built 9/72 when checked against other VINs within 200 of that one.

No patched pin holes. Pristine painted inside surface. Black "anodized" badge.

I had ‭4732908732‬ - It had a gunmetal "914" and a black "1.7" but not sure if they were OEM or not. I still have them....George has the car in a field somewhere....

So why don't you donate to 914World? It's a "mental health care business" & your donations might be tax deductible.

Considering the age of most of our members, it might now be a viable old fogies virtual nursing home.
